President José Ramos-Horta today participated in the Seminar on Intercultural Dialogue with the theme “From Wehali to the Modern State: Social Interaction, Cultural, and Society Politics of Timor Island from Time to Time,” held as part of the Border Festival 2023.
The Border Festival is a cultural exchange initiative aimed at strengthening reconciliation between Timor-Leste and Indonesia. In his opening remarks, President Ramos-Horta emphasized the importance of reconciliation in fostering a peaceful and prosperous future for both countries.
“Reconciliation is not about forgetting the past,” the President said. “It is about learning from our history and using it as a foundation to build a better future for our people.”
The Intercultural Dialogue Seminar brought together experts from Timor-Leste and Indonesia to discuss the evolution of social, cultural, and political interactions between the two countries. The seminar was a valuable opportunity to exchange perspectives and foster greater understanding.
President Ramos-Horta’s participation in the Border Festival 2023 is a testament to his commitment to reconciliation and his vision for a stronger, more united future for Timor-Leste and Indonesia.
