President Ramos-Horta Continues To Show Love For People With Disabilities Through Social Support

Tve-t Covalima, April 17, 2024 – The Presidency of the Republic, this Tuesday and Wednesday, continues to provide social support to families with disabilities (PwD) in the Administrative Posts of Fatululik, Fohorem, Tiliomar, Zumalai, and Fatumea, Municipality of Covalima.

Social support such as Rice, Cooking Oil, Food Parcels including Blankets, is provided through the Office of Social Inclusion Affairs, Presidency of the Republic. This support is given to the households where people with disabilities live.

In his intervention, the Principal Advisor on Social Inclusion Affairs, Gaspar Afonso, informed that “This support is a continuation of the initiative of the President of the Republic, regarding social inclusion, so as not to leave anyone behind and to show love for them (PwD)”.

Gaspar Afonso further informed that not only is this social support, but the visit is also to see their living conditions, including encouraging them and for the future to make better policies to serve them better in rural areas.

For families of people with disabilities who have not yet received social support, the PwD representative at the Presidential Palace explained that there will be no discrimination against anyone and that efforts will be made to ensure that everyone will receive the social support offered by the Presidency of the Republic, as this program comes from the initiative of President Ramos-Horta since his second term in 2022.

Meanwhile, Alfredo de Araujo, Chief of Belulik-Kraik Village, Belulik-Leten Sub-village, Fatumea Administrative Post, representing families of people with visual impairments, expressed his gratitude to the current Head of State. “I feel happy and grateful because our community of people with disabilities has received support from the President of the Republic”.

Before arriving in the municipality of Covalima, the social inclusion team had carried out social support activities in the municipality of Bobonaro, in the Administrative Posts of Bobonaro and Lolotoe with a total of 15 beneficiaries, and the next day continued in the municipality of Covalima in the Administrative Posts of Fatulik, Fohorem, Tiliomar and Fatumea with a total of 44 beneficiaries, including Zumalai with 1 family as a beneficiary, so the total from the municipalities of Bobonaro and Covalima is 60 beneficiaries.
