Tve-t Dili, April 23, 2024 – In support of President Jose Ramos-Horta’s vision to ensure “No child dies at birth, every child is healthy, well-nourished, learning and safe,” a unique Thai culinary experience was shared with children this morning. The Women’s Economic Empowerment Unit organized a “Thai Cooking Class” at the Matak Canteen, including elements that prioritize children’s well-being.
Lalana Rojanapaibulya, wife of the Thai Ambassador, along with two Thai embassy chefs, led the engagement session teaching the canteen’s staff about the art of fruits and vegetables in Thailand way, as well as the preparation of the iconic Thai dish Pad Thai.
While the interactive class provided an opportunity for participants to hone their culinary skills, more importantly, Lalana’s interaction with children from the Kitchen for the People program shared traditional Thai sweets, seeing the children’s delight as they tasted these new dishes.
The chefs patiently guided the Kantina Matak staff through a presentation of dishes using original Southeast Asian fruits and vegetables. After the lesson, the President’s staff sampled the well-prepared Pad Thai and appreciated the tasty dish.
Lalana, pleased with her interaction with the children, happily offered to hold cooking classes again for the children. This aligns with the President’s goal of promoting an environment where every child has access to learning opportunities.
